Following a run of disappointing results, and now having a full squad of 15 players to choose from which included new signing Nathan Dawson, a few positional changes were made in an attempt to freshen up the team. It proved to work as the opening 15 minutes saw us dominate a large percentage of possession and create some good half chances. Our 2 wingers Matt Baber and Reece Tucker were both playing some very fluent football, terrorising the Shire full backs and seemed only a matter of time before we broke the deadlock. Defensively, Michael Payne was working very well in the centre and Ben Bowden at right back, starting his first full game this season, was also playing extremely well. Even with the chances coming, we got to half time with the score still at 0-0, our two forwards Mo Bouaziz and Oli Boon being very frustrated.

Having 4 very competent subs on the line meant we could make changes to keep up the pressure. This paid off mid way through the second half as some great passing and moving through the midfield found James Boulton inside their penalty box and his low shot nestled in the corner of the net to put us deservedly up 1-0. Further chances came with both Brad Monelle and Matt Baber seeing their shots saved by some great goalkeeping. The crossbar also coming to the Shires rescue. However, the game was put beyond reach with 10 minutes to go by debutant Nathan Dawson being in the right place to score at close range following another save by the keeper. There was a scare near the end as we conceded a very late penalty but overall we thoroughly deserved to win this game and the scoreline could have been a lot higher.

Difficult to be precise as to why we played so well this week when in previous weeks we have been so disappointing. I hope its a culmination of several factors which the team are all aware of and it is definitely a very positive feeling that we must take with us over the coming weeks.

Man of the match proved to be an extremely difficult choice as there were so many good performances. Despite Michael Payne playing really well in the centre of defence and Oli Randall, James Boutlon and Matt Baber in midfield, it was awarded this week to Reece Tucker who had his best game this season.
